Honey-Glazed Orange Blossom Dinner Rolls
Soft, fluffy, and golden brown, these buttery dinner rolls feature a subtle floral sweetness infused right into the dough and brushed over the top with MJD Apiary's Orange Blossom Honey.
Ingredients
The Honey: 1/4 cup MJD Apiary Raw Orange Blossom Honey (divided: 2 tbsp for the dough, 2 tbsp for the glaze)
The Yeast & Liquid:
3/4 cup warm milk (about 105°F to 110°F)
1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
2 tbsp granulated sugar
The Enrichment:
1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
2 large eggs (at room temperature)
1 tsp vanilla extract or 1 tsp fresh orange zest (to enhance the citrus notes)
The Dry Ingredients:
3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour (or bread flour for a chewier texture)
1 1/2 tsp salt
The Butter Finish:
2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted (for brushing after baking)
A pinch of flaky sea salt (optional)
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Activate the Yeast
In a large mixing bowl (or the bowl of a stand mixer), combine the warm milk, granulated sugar, and active dry yeast.
Stir gently and let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes until the top becomes frothy and bubbly.
2. Mix the Dough
Whisk the melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract (or orange zest), and 2 tablespoons of the Orange Blossom Honey into the activated yeast mixture.
In a separate bowl, whisk together 3 1/2 cups of flour and the salt.
Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, mixing with a wooden spoon or the dough hook attachment on your mixer until a shaggy dough forms.
Knead for 6 to 8 minutes (or about 10 minutes by hand) until the dough is smooth, elastic, and slightly tacky. If it's too sticky, add remaining flour one tablespoon at a time.
3. First Rise
Form the dough into a smooth ball and place it in a lightly greased bowl. Cover with a damp towel or plastic wrap.
Let it rise in a warm, draft-free place for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
4. Shape and Second Rise
Punch down the risen dough and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Divide it into 12 equal pieces.
Roll each piece into a smooth ball and arrange them closely together in a greased 9x13-inch baking pan.
Cover and let them rise a second time for 30 to 45 minutes, until puffy and touching.
5. Bake
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Bake the rolls for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the tops are a deep golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 190°F. (If the tops brown too quickly, tent them loosely with foil halfway through).
6. Orange Blossom Honey Glaze
While the rolls are still hot from the oven, mix the remaining 2 tablespoons of Orange Blossom Infused Honey with the 2 tablespoons of melted butter.
Generously brush this sweet citrus-butter glaze all over the tops of the warm rolls. Sprinkle lightly with flaky sea salt if desired.
Serving Suggestion
Serve these warm straight from the pan alongside roasted chicken, holiday dinners, or simply slathered with extra butter and honey.
